What is Waste-to-Clean-Energy?
We have all probably heard of Waste-to Energy (WtE). But how do we get to clean energy from municipal solid waste (MSW) ?
Our WtCE pilot project is ‘Carbon Negative’
IPIC's WtCE system surpasses ‘carbon neutral’ status and significantly enters into the category of “net negative” carbon emissions- especially when compared to the current manners of MSW processing, which are intensely greenhouse gas producing.
Our WtCE system achieves Net Negative by a combination three features.
No landfill greenhouse gases: Our system eliminates the MSW so 0% ends up in landfills where it would create greenhouse gases. Landfill greenhouse gases are about 50% methane and 50% carbon dioxide (CO2) . While the methane and CO2 are released in roughly similar volumes, methane has a much higher global warming potential (GWP). Assessments show that over a 20-year time span in the atmosphere, methane has approximately 80–86 times more warming potential than CO2.
Our system eliminates 100% of the methane and approx. 99% of CO2 emissions.
Clean transport of MSW: Our approach eliminates the use of diesel-powered trucks to collect MSW. Numerous diesel waste removal trucks working all day collecting and transporting MSW are major CO2 emitters. And they create local air pollution.
Our MSW trucks are compact and 100% electric plus they don’t need to travel
far. What’s more impacting, they are charged by solar panels, which are integrated onto the roof of the WtCE building. This means the trucks are 100% green energy powered.
Clean power generation: The fuel produced by our WtE plant consists of ‘syngas’, which is about 50% hydrogen – the worlds cleanest fuel. The rest contains some greenhouse gas but it is mostly removed by our carbon capture systems.
Our system comprises of an innovative configuration of existing technologies and equipment to achieve a totally new level of how MSW is managed and eliminated.
